Vegetable Gardens

Organic vegetable gardening is one of the fastest-growing hobbies in America, with even the First Family getting on board the home vegetable gardening trend. Americans are returning to kitchen gardening for a variety of reasons including wanting to enjoy fresher, better-tasting, more nutritious produce, taking advantage of the most local of all possible food sources, and saving money on fast-rising grocery costs.

There is more than one way to incorporate edibles into the home landscape. Raised-bed vegetable gardening is one of the best, most easy-care ways of growing vegetables. Utilizing a system of trellises and square-foot and/or lasagna-style gardening methods are low-cost, space-saving, labor-saving methods of growing herbs, fruits, and vegetables in the home garden.

For those short on space, many vegetables can be successfully grown in containers, and even incorporated into ornamental gardens. Clients are sometimes surprised that vegetables can be beautiful, adding color and interest to ornamental beds and borders.

An organic vegetable gardener since childhood, I have years of experience and knowledge to share with clients interested in adding vegetables to their gardens, whether in a dedicated vegetable plot or incorporated into an existing landscape.

I offer vegetable garden consultations and coaching to help do-it-yourselfers gain the knowledge and expertise needed to create beautiful, productive organic vegetable gardens in their own backyards, or incorporate edible plants into their existing ornamental gardens. I can teach you how to create an organic raised bed or a series of them, or how to plant a traditional, very economical veggie gardening space in your own back or side yard.

All you need is a spot that gets at least six hours of direct sunlight on your property, and I can provide the know-how and experience to help you create a productive, beautiful kitchen garden.

For those who’d like a kitchen garden of their own but lack the time or physical ability to do the work, I also provide full-service vegetable gardening – everything from helping you chose a site, to creating an organic raised bed, to weeding, watering, and harvesting your delicious veggies for you.

Organic kitchen gardening is good for the environment, saves energy, and will provide you and your family with a season of beautiful, healthful, delicious, fresh, locally-grown vegetables, and even fruits. There are many fruits that can be successfully grown in Chicago-area gardens.

For more information on my kitchen gardening coaching, consulting, and full-service gardening services, please feel free to contact me. I’ll be happy to answer your questions and schedule an appointment.
